When it comes to Anti Money Laundering (AML), the stakes are high and the potential consequences of non-compliance serious, so taking on the responsibilities of MLRO known as the ‘Money Laundering Reporting Officer’ can be a daunting prospect.
Reports suggest that, in many cases, the legal requirement of appointing a MLRO and MLCO (Money Laundering Compliance Officer) – sometimes one and the same – has not been fully appreciated, and that, in fact, the very specific and significant tasks of the roles have unwittingly fallen to an unsuspecting member of staff who is underprepared and ill-equipped.
